Making a paperclip float

Today at science we have been making a paperclip float, we tried and tried and in our third we made it float. Its amazing and how we made it float, we will tell you soon after my short introduction. Okay so we worked for a little time on this experiment, well not much of an experiment. We enjoyed it and you could try it at home. Here is the instructions on how to do it.

  • What you need
  1. Clean dry paper clips
  2. Tissue paper
  3. A bowl of water
  4. Pencil with eraser
  • What you need to do
  1. Fill the bowl with water
  2. Try to make the paper clip float…not much luck, huh?
  3. Tear a piece of tissue paper about half the size of a dollar bill
  4. GENTLY drop the tissue flat onto the surface of the water
  5. GENTLY place a dry paper clip flat onto the tissue (try not to touch the water or the tissue)
  6. Use the eraser end of the pencil to carefully poke the tissue (not the paper clip) until the tissue sinks. With some luck, the tissue will sink and leave the paper clip floating!
Wee also have some of our experiment on floating a paper clip and a sunken paperclip

How it works is that if you drop the paperclip in the water it will sunk. But if you place a half a tissue so like half of a CARR card. Put the tissue in the water slowly onto the waters surface, also slowly put the paperclip onto the tissue. Wait a while, after some seconds use the end of the pencil to make the tissue sunk to the bottom. Don't touch the paper clip and sink the tissue slowly. Once it is about to sink, your paper might float depends on how you did it.

Good luck and have a great weekend😄👍.
