They are being hunted by Erasers which are demon looking humans, they were human before and was transformed into a monster by a scientist called Jeb Batchelder so they could kill the humans with wings. But instead, the erasers kidnapped their little sister and used her in the lab for testing and later when the human winged family tried to save their little sister they fell right into Jeb's Trap and now they are all captured except one teenager and a child. What will happen in book number 2 of Maximum Ride, Manga. Find out soon and please comment if you are looking forward to this. Hope you like my post and have a great day.😄

Reflection of Cybersmart

Image result for cybersmartThis is our last session of doing cyber smart so today we have to make a blog post about cyber smart and reflect what we did from the start of term one to all the way to term 4. So on term one, we started doing keeping our private things to ourselves and not to share it with anyone. after moving to term 2, I knew so much more and what not to do and what to do in term 1 and those lessons were so helpful. My favourite thing in cyber smart this year is learning new things like how to keep our devices safe and how to keep ourselves safe online. Something I didn't enjoy was that sometimes it gets boring when we do our blogging and we get tired but at least we put a lot of effort into it. Something my Cybersmart teacher did well was explaining the lessons well which gets us on the right track and we do get confused sometimes but she gets us back on the track. Something she could have done better was...

I am actually not sure what she could have done better but she did well to teach us all of these things we did not know and now I feel safer just by learning all these things and I am proud of my cyber smart teacher and she did very well, anyways hope you like my post about cyber smart and have a great day.😄

(FINAL DAY OF COOKING!!!)

After doing a lot of planning and cooking, we've finally came to an end of doing all these hard work with Khush, Vann and Axle. All the blogging I did about this discovery was a practice cooking and this my last blogging about cooking because next week will be presenting day which means we have to present what we have done from the start of term 4.

It was a very tough day but it everything went so well for the first time and me and my group appreciated that, we changed the normal panna cotta flavour into a mango cheese flavour on the panna cotta which turned out to be delicious and tasty looking. The cheese we grated onto the panna cotta was called the mozzarella cheese and the mango we dropped all over the panna cotta was a syrup called mango puree which went very well with the panna cotta.

We also added cinnamon and mango puree onto the synonym rolls which which we are now called the cinnamon-synonym rolls. At the same time we also made the cheese sticks and we fried them but made a little change to it, after frying the cheese sticks, we then added more cheese to the cheese sticks to make it even more cheesy. One or two weeks ago my friend in my group thought of making a mango shake and today we tried making it. The mango shake was ok but it did not go as we planned, it turned to be watery because we didn't add the ice and also the mango we tried to blend down didn't break enough so the mango's in the drink was in cubes.
Other dishes were perfected and everyone we shared with loved it and we got some helpful comments from them about what we could have done better, my favourite dish was the cheese sticks and the panna cotta, plus the mango shake because they all tasted so good that they are mouth watering.

My other team members Khush, Vann and Axle worked so hard with me and we all made it successfully to the tough end day and we are all tired out so much that we nearly slept. I'm proud of my group, they put so much effort and I am happy with them. Anyways, this is the end of my journey of "Tough Thursday" and please comment on my post, hope you like my journey and have a great day.😄

Science Roadshow

Today at Hornby high we had a Science Roadshow which is a science event and it was held in the learning street. The Show was about interacting with science equipment and also being taught science and body part things we did not know about and we had a good time experiencing the new types of equipment got to interact with and there were so much more to interact with. The first thing me and my friends did was to match the seeds in the right order to compare to what we eat right now, for example, we have to compare the seeds in the right order to make bread and if you get it correct a green light will shine on the board. But unfortunately, when we tried it, it did not work which was sad. Then we moved to a room which had crazy pieces of equipment and we had a blast using them, once we finished all the activities, the Science Roadshow members showed us more crazy things and we enjoyed it so much. I had a blast and I can't wait for the next Science Roadshow, hope you like my blog post and have a great day. 😄

Our Update on Discovery-2

Last Thursday I made an Update about our discovery if you did not see my last post "Discovery Update", please check it out. So today we perfected the sweetness of the panna cotta because it was way too much sweet and it gave us a sugar rush. The panna cotta was great but when we took the panna cotta out from the fridge we put the panna cotta in a boiling water so the sides do not stick but sadly it melted when we served it on a dish so that was not what we wanted to see. We are not going to make the pandesal anymore because it uses too much time for Thursday and it doesn't look delicious, on Thursday it will be presenting time. We might put some changes on some of the food, for example, putting mango puree on the panna cotta. It had been a busy journey so far for us and it was an enjoyable journey working with my friends/group. We all have learned so many new things and I loved experiencing these new things like making the panna cotta and Filipino bread. But anyways, this was a good experience for us and that's all for my update for Passion Project.

A Letter to Emma

Hi Emma,

My name is Ranit and I am a year 7 in Hornby High School, I form class is 7AL and my form class teacher is Miss Allan. Update on our Discovery

As you may know on my last blog post I made about passion project and what we are doing, today we have been making panna cotta, if you do not know what is panna cotta, search it up if you don't want too, I will tell you a little about it. Panna cotta is an Italian dessert but we made different changes to it by adding Mozzarella cheese on it. On my last blog I told you that my group will be using Mozzarella on different dishes, so we used it on panna cotta which turned out pretty delicious and we shared it with other teachers and students/groups. They loved it so much that they wanted more but we couldn't because we did not have enough ingredients to make it.

The Pandesal which is a Filipino bread, that also turned out very yummy and nice. Me and Khush made the Pandesal together and we enjoyed making it and we also have videos of us making it, Axle and Vann also helped us make them because they had a job of making the panna cotta and they had to wait because it was in the fridge. The Pandesal had to bake so we left it in the oven to be ready to be taken out so it will be ready to eat.

After making the Pandesal we made cheese rolls, inside the cheese rolls were Mozzarella cheese and it was surrounded by dough and we fried it on a pan. We fried the cheese rolls and the cheese melted in the dough but it started to leak but we handled the problem, but after frying it, it turned out tasty and beautiful. Here is a photo of the cheese roll but it is not cooked so we forgot to take the photo of the cheese rolls when it was cooked.

There was so much we did and right now my group is so tired but we put so much effort on what we did today, thanks for reading my blog today, I am going to make another one of these blogs next Monday or Thursday. Thanks to my group and please leave a comment and also have a great day. 😄

Passion Projects!!!

This Monday we started a new kete called Passion Project, this happens every Monday and Thursday and we had up to 3 choices to choose what activity we wanted to do. They were so many choices like Discovery, Stone Sculpturing, Music theatre and so much more to choose from. My first chose was  Discovery, my second was ODC(Out Door Education) and I can't remember my third one but there is so much to choose from. The first day on Monday I went to Discovery and then we had to choose a subject of what we are going to make or do in discovery.

We got into groups which are Vann, Khush and Axle. We thought of making something new, we thought to make a dish with Mozzarella on it. We planned how we are going to make it and the planning turned out so well and I am proud of my group. Next Monday we are going to try making the Mozzarella and we will soon see if it works.

To be Continued...

Amphibious Invention

Today on Cybersmart, we had questions to answer by using the filters in google when you search. We learned how to use the filters properly and it was fun a fun activity for us to do and to also learn about. Once we finished answering all the questions we were given, we were given a question we had to answer individually and then we had to blog about it. It is about finding out what invention was made in 1932. I found out that the invention was an Amphibious Bicycle, it was made to go on water and land and some floats on the side of the bike to keep it balanced. The wheels looked weird but here's the picture of what it looked like. The wheels have air in them so it stays floating and does not sink into the water. We had so much searching this and the part I enjoyed about this activity was searching what the invention was. Here's the picture of the bike and I hope you like my post. Please leave a comment and also have a great day 😄👍.

Using Addition to solve Subtraction

For the last two or three weeks, we had to make a DLO-(Digital Learning Object) about using addition to solve subtraction. My DLO will explain how to solve subtraction just by using addition and I hope you learn something from my DLO. If you did learn something, please leave a comment about what you learned and what you liked about my DLO. Hope you like it and have a great day😉👍.

About Search

Today we were just learning about the search. The search bar is for searching for stuff you want to see but instead, if you search for something you want but comes up with something else, for example, you searched for an animal but came up with a singer or etc. You have filters which help's you about what you are searching, you searched an animal but came with an singer or etc, click images. That's what filters are ther for, right.

When you want to know how fast can a penguin swim, it will come up with loads of pages, you just need one answer but there are loads of links to a website that takes you to another website, answers can be on the right side of the search like I searched Austin Post, on the side it says Post Malone and under it has a description about him, that can also help your search. Anyways, the penguins speed in water reaches up to 22 mph.

Fish In A Tree

Image result for fish in a treeFor the last three terms, we have been reading a book called Fish In A Tree. We have been reading it as a class and we finally finished it so we had to make a blog post to let you know about the book we read, the author of this book is Lynda Mullaly Hunt. First, the book started like this. There is a girl called Ally and she is bullied by two girls, Jessica and Shay who say to Ally and everyone that Ally is dumb at reading. But Ally is not dumb at reading, she just has dyslexia and she does not know about that yet, her brother Travis has always cheered her sister up when she is down. She is often shy to ask for help so two children named Keisha and Albert helped her out in school and always has her back. Mr Daniels which is Ally's new teacher finds out that Ally can't read so Mr Daniels helps her throughout the school. I loved this book and so did my whole class and I think you should read this book too, hope you like it and have a great day😄👍.

Super Slushie Update

Today we have finished everything we needed to do in our business, we finished our big table poster and planned everything else with my group, if I did not tell you in my last super slushie blog post who is working with me I can tell you right now. In my group are Ruby, Sahana, Skyler and myself, we started B&E I think 5 or 6 weeks ago. Now we are happy with everything and we are ready to set up our stuff but not today, we will set it up next week because the market day will start next week.

Everything went well throughout our planning and decorating and we are proud of ourselves. Right now Skyler is very busy because every one wants her to draw for them, Skyler is very good at drawing but she is okay with it, at least she is not bored.

Ruby, Sahana and I are writing this blog post right now and yeah, it went pretty well and after this blog post we are going to do the small business game called Gumption, if you don't know what game that is, its like monopoly but with different company's on the board and you have to try and get at least two company's for example warehouse and Air New Zealand. It's a pretty cool game and I love it. Well here are the photo's of my groups big table poster, hope you like it and have a great day😄👍.

Big Table Poster

It looks side ways because the teacher had to take the photo because it is very big. Anyways hope like our poster :).

Alchemy Experiment

ALCHEMY

Today we are doing an experiment called Alchemy which means turning something gold, example coin which is gold turning into colour silver. We were in groups again but with different people, those two members in my group were Nykachia and Shontelle, we followed the steps to make this work and it was not that easy, so first we had to set up the Bunsen burners and when we finished setting it up it looked like the one on the top left corner but with the beaker on it and added 50ml of Zinc Nitrate into the beaker. Then we turned it on and started it with blue fire then added two metals into the boiling beaker, after a while, Shontelle added the 10c coin into the beaker and waited for 10 mins.

Ten Minutes Later...

After that ten minutes, I took out the coin from the hot boiling beaker and that was the tricky part because as we moved the coin the beaker moved with it and we could not touch the beaker because it is really hot. I managed to take it out and I held the copper coin under the water for a while to cool it down and after that Shontelle held the coin over the blue flame and it slowly changed colour to gold almost. Everything went well at the end. We may have found some challenges in the experiment but we all made it safely at the end.

Heres the coin

Orana Park Journey

Orana Park Recount

HIPPO
  • H-Habitat lose
  • I-Introduced Species
  • P-Pollution
  • P-Population Growth
  • O-Over Exploitation

This Tuesday we went to Orana Park to learn new things about animals and have fun around Orana Park. We saw about 16 animals at Orana Park and we learned so much about them and we got to hold some stuff from the animals. This is my second experience around orana park and on my second experience, I saw a lot more animals than my first experience around orana park. The first thing that bright sunny morning was got ready to go on the bus and seated on the bus and we left. As we left we sang and talked about stuff on the bus, on our trip to orana park we came along some up and down roads and forest filled with campervans and tents, plus some shops.

As soon as we reached orana park the other bus came along behind us, the bus parked and said thank you to the bus driver and lined up on the parking lot because there were no cars, well only the owners and managers cars were there. When the other bus arrived and the other classes got off, they lined up and some zoo rangers/teachers came over to take us on a tour, we were already given badges at school and it says a number on it so we were split into groups at orana park and went to our ranger/teacher.

Elaine was our ranger teacher and she took us on a tour around the zoo, the first thing she did was that she told us the important rules about the animals and keeping things to ourselves. Example: Not feeding the animals our food and not touching or climbing the fences, after that we went in and we first ate some food because it was morning tea time. After having morning tea we left our bags by the toilet and went with Elaine to a special room. When we went inside it was dark but not too dark. It had real animals but a statue of them, she showed us what animals they were and she also showed us the bird of the year which is a kea. We learned other things in that special room then we left, we followed Elaine to a big cage filled with keas and another type of birds.

Kea

Elaine told some things about the keas, they are sneaky, loud and playful and plus they are naughty. I liked the keas because underneath these wings are colourful and that's one thing I like about them. We went on a bridge that was in the cage and we saw rivers and a pond underneath the bridge. We saw lots of keas and one of them flew from behind us and tried to grab something from someone, they are very very sneaky and naughty. We came to the end so we left the cage and went outside to go to our next destination.

Spider Monkeys

We walked on a long path and as we were walking we saw a playground but it wasn’t a playground for us, it was a playground for the spider monkeys. Spider monkeys lived on an island, it lives on an island because it has a barrier around it filled with water because spider monkeys hate water, they do drink water but they do not like to swim. Which also means that the spider monkeys won’t escape from their barrier and wander around the zoo, spider monkeys are cool and funny because they do weird,  funny things with their tails like swinging on a rope with their tails wrapped around it and swing upside down.

Lions

We left the spider monkeys alone and went off to see the lions. The lions were sleeping on the far end and we could not get there because there was a fence and we were not allowed to enter or climb over it. But from the distance, I saw seven lions, some males and some females sleeping together in a group almost in the far back corner of the cage. Like I said some were males the males we saw did not have manes but Elaine said they will be growing soon. I like lions because they sleep hunt and protect together as a group.

Tasmanian devils

We left the lions and moved on to see the Tasmanian devils when I read that name on the board saying, Tasmanian devils, I did not know what it looks like but on the board, it showed a picture of it and it kind of looks like a rat but bigger. We only saw 2 of them, one hiding at the back of the cage and one behind a tree or I guess they were just sleeping. I did not get a good look at them because they were way too far away, but that was okay for me because I did get a close-up picture of them.

Tigers

We started our trail again towards the tigers, we saw one in each cage, they were about three or two cages but I only saw two tigers. One was in one cage and other in the other cage because they may fight or breed because the zoo rangers don’t want to breed more animals but they make some animals breed. The Tigers went towards each other and walked backwards and forwards by the fence like they were communicating or something, my friend caught one tiger well peeing in the corner of the fence on the far side. But Elaine said one thing about tigers peeing around places. Elaine said that they pee in places so that when other tigers come by and smell the other tiger's pee it means it is their territory and they can not take over their place. I found that interesting and I never knew about that. Did you ever know about this?

Zebras

We set off and found three or four zebras at the back of the fence eating grass and hay, Elaine told us a question to answer and it was… Are zebras black and white or white and black, the answer was black and white because the baby zebras are all black and as they grow, the white stripes come along. When they are adults they black and white plus zebras have their own unique patterns around their body of stripes.

Buffalo

Next to the zebras were the buffaloes, Elaine told us that there were only a Dad and his two daughters. They were so cute and new because before we came to Orana Park there were more buffaloes and no babies. I loved them plus those two baby buffaloes were pale yellow by the look of it and the mum or dad was dark brown. The baby buffaloes were super cute when they slept together.

Cheetah

After looking at the buffaloes we walked for about 1 minute down the path and found cages down on the dark shades path on the left, we walked down the dark shaded path and saw a big cat which was the three cheetahs sleeping in their cages. We went close to one but not too close because there was a sign saying that do not get too close or you will get bitten. It’s stripes were so colourful and neat and one looked at us like it’s telling us to go away because we might be disturbing it so we left it alone and carried on.

Gorillas

We took a shortcut to go and see the big great muscle ape which is the big black gorillas. The gorillas were big and there were only three in the cage, one of them was the boss in there and he decides what to do with them or what to order the other gorillas to do, it was scary because the boss gorilla gave us a mean look which was pretty scary and I did not like it one bit so we moved on to see the orange hairy apes.

Orangutans

Next to the gorilla's cage was an orangutans cage and they were only three of them spread around. One was on the top of the playground, forgot to say that the gorillas have a playgroudn and so does the orangutans but in separate places so they did have fun but the gorilla's, not so much. One orangutan came across wearing a sack on his/her head like a hat to protect from themselves. As we were looking at them we saw Emu’s on the other side but we did not go over there because we had not much time. So we moved on to see the Rhinos.

Rhino’s

We passed the giraffes but left our bags by the door where the zoo rangers store food for the giraffes but the giraffes couldn’t reach so it was okay. We started to walk towards the rhinos and saw five or six rhinos and Elaine took out a tooth and a horn from her bag, it was a rhino’s tooth and horns so we each got to hold it and the horn was pretty heavy so we moved on to the giraffes, we only fed them and we finished our journey.

We had so much fun and learned a lot from them so thanks to Elaine the zoo ranger for teaching us and we appreciate it. Hope you liked my journey at Orana Park.

Geometry Knowledge

This week and last week we have been learning about geometry and we had to make a slideshow about what we know about them. Our teacher listed some geometry words and we had to find out the information and write a short sentence about what they are. I did find some parts challenging and I kept moving forward even though its hard, so I finished it and it has seven of them, Line of Symmetry, rotational symmetry, translation, reflection, rotation, tesselation and enlargement. I am happy with it and I hope you learn something from my slideshow. Hope you like it and have a great day😄👍
Also, don't forget to comment on my post about what you liked about it and what you did not like about it.

Ice Experiment

Hello guys, today we were doing an experiment on making the ice stick to the matchstick. Is that possible? Yes, it is possible, me and my other two team members Hope and Anneleise worked together and tried making the ice stick to the matchstick. We also took photos from us lifting the ice with the matchstick. First, we had to gather all the stuff we need for the experiment than one of my team member went to fill the beaker with water cause it is part of the experiment. We put the ice in the beaker filled with water and got the matchstick. We each took turn putting the matchstick on the ice and then we added salt onto it. We added salt because of it dissolves and sticks the ice cube and the matchstick together making them stick like glue.

It was a fun experience doing this experiment and we enjoyed it so much and you can try it at home and get some help from the adult if you want to, it's not dangerous at all. It was tricky for Anneleise in the first place we started doing this experiment because it did not stick because Anneleise did not put the salt on the ice cube, she dropped the salt in the water, not on the ice. She tried her best and we all managed to lift the ice which was great and did not find anything challenging at all in this experiment and that is sad because I like challenges in the experiment. Hope you like my post and please comment about what you liked, hope you like it and have a great day😄👍.

Our main question:
Why do we sprinkle salt on icy roads?
Because the salt dissolves into the ice making it melt faster so the cars won't slip or have accidents on the road.

Here are the Photos of us lifting the ice with the matchstick

Elephant Toothpaste???

Hi guys, today we have been making an elephant toothpaste in science. We have been given instructions to follow and we had a lot of fun and exciting things to do. We had to be very careful with the equipment's because they were dangerous liquids that hurts your skin and poisonous ones as well. We had to wear gloves and safety glasses to keep our selves safe. We worked in groups of three and those people in my group were Skyler, Blake and myself.

We enjoyed what we have been doing and you could do this at home but you must have an adult with you to keep you safe from what you are doing. The gloves we used were soft inside but when we finished our experiment and had to wash it, it felt sticky. About our experiment when we mixed all/some ingredients together into a cylinder it smelt bad and I did not like the smell at all, But we all managed to reach the end without getting our selves hurt.

I and one other person took photos on the iPads but the photos needed to be transferred to our chrome books but did not work so sorry for not showing the photos. Here are the instructions to show you how to make it. Hope you like it and have a great day😄👍.

Elephant’s Toothpaste
Resources:
  • Safety glasses
  • A cylinder
  • Rubber gloves
  • A tote tray to protect the bench from damage
  • 120ml Hydrogen Peroxide 6%
  • Dishwash liquid
  • Dry yeast
  • Food colouring
  • Funnel
  • Tablespoon
  • Beaker
Procedure:
  1. Put on your gloves and goggles.
  2. Put a tote tray on the bench and put your cylinder in the tote tray, with the funnel in the top.
  3. Ask the teacher to pour the hydrogen peroxide into your cylinder (via the funnel).
  4. Add 10 drops of food colouring to the cylinder (via the funnel).
  5. Add a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid to the bottle (via the funnel).
  6. Swirl your cylinder around to mix everything together.
  7. In a beaker, mix a tablespoon of dry yeast with 3 tablespoons of warm water and stir for 30 seconds.
  8. Pour the yeast mixture into the cylinder (via the funnel).
  9. Stand back and watch the chemical reaction!
  10. Pour the mixture down the drain afterwards and wash out the cylinder.
Scientific Explanation (How it works):
The yeast and water mixture acts as a catalyst - something that speeds up a chemical reaction in another substance while remaining unchanged itself. When you add this to the cylinder it makes the hydrogen peroxide break down into oxygen and water. The dishwashing liquid traps the oxygen in bubbles to create the foam. Just a small amount of hydrogen peroxide will create a lot of oxygen, so you get loads of bubbles - making your ‘toothpaste’ almost explode out of the cylinder.
