Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.
- In your groups of 3 make a paper plane and measure its distance and behaviour.
- In groups of 3 make a water rocket and record its distance and behaviour.
Flight: The action of an object flying through the air.
The forces:
- Gravity
- Thrust
- Drag
- Lift
Paper Plane:
Materials:
1.Paper
2.Ruler
Steps:
1. Fold in half and open it up
2. Take two top corners and fold it to the middle line
3. Fold it down to its line
4. Then take the two top corners and fold it into the middle
5. Fold it in half and it may look like a plane with no wings
6. Then you might see three corners, one at the front, one at the back corner and one in the middle. Take the middle corner and fold that down to the bottom and curse it from front to the back.
7. Do the same to the other wing, then fold the corner again to make flaps

|
Normal
| 0.5m | I goes smoothly through the air and lands smoothly |
Ailerons
| 0.3m | Curving as soon as lauched and starts doing flips. |
Paper clip | 0.1m | It falls instantly as soon as its lauched. |
Conclusion:
Today in science hurumanu we were doing the flight experiment and the forces of it which are gravity, Thrust, Drag and Lift. We had to get in groups of three to do this experiment so I teamed up with Kaedun and John. I and my two partners made a paper plane to do this experiment and we did measures of it and put it in a template above, we did three experiments on the plane.
We first threw the plane normally and measured the distance which was 0.5ms and the movement of the plane was smooth and also the landing was smooth too, we then improved the plane by cutting the back of the wing a bit and it looks like there are two extra small wings in each wing. The measurement of the improved plane's distance was 0.3m because it was curving and started doing flips as soon as we launched it.
For our last experiment on the plane, we put a paper clip at the end of the plane and launched it, unfortunately, the plane went 0.1ms. By adding that paperclip, it made the plane dive straight to the ground instantly as soon as we launched it. The flight meaning is an action of an object that fly's through the air.
