The Development of Music

For music hurumanu, we have been working on making a slideshow about the Development of Music each decade from the 1900s to 2010s. In my group is Kaedun and we have been working on it after school and we were the first ones managing to finish it and we are happy about our slideshow and how we presented it. We had to present about who was famous in each decade and what songs were famous at each decade, it was a fun activity for us because we discovered new popular song artist and also new songs.

We developed our presentation and me and Kaedun learned so many things and we enjoyed the time, we did the presentation after school because at home we don't stress that much but at school, we get distracted so it is hard to work around other people. Luckily we finished it like I said before and again, me and Kaedun are proud of ourselves and so are our hurumanu teachers.

Hope you like the slideshow and also I hope you learned something from it. Hope you enjoy and have a great day. Also, leave a comment and bye...

Charlesworth Reserve

The City Council has decided to plant trees at Charlesworth reserve because the Charlesworth reserve’s role is to provide nesting, roosting and feeding habitat for native and migratory birds. That also includes providing habitats for fish and marine life, lizards and other types of insects.

I also found this interesting that the Charlesworth reserve is named after Captain William Charlesworth who died on the 10th of June 1875 at the age of 57. Willian Charlesworth was born in Yorkshire in England in 1814, William worked on a boat named "The Brothers" and sailed around the Pacific. He was named Captain when he was in charge of a vessel called the "Royal Saxon". Being on that vessel made him see more of the world and he also got to travel further and he also got see the shores of Russia.

Back to the reserve, the government has set us a goal to plant 1 billion trees in New Zealand and we are going to be part of that and help the city council plant trees at the Charlesworth Reserve, here's a satellite photo of the Reserve.

This is a wetland reserve so we will be planting native plants to attract birds and other living things like little insects so they can breed, feed, roost and etc.

Shoe Story

Every time I walk around with my owner, I explore many different worlds and places. We sometimes hop onto a moving red object and we explored...

Actually, I couldn't see what was happening outside when I was in the red moving object. Once we stepped out of the red moving object, I was able to see so many things and sometimes I feel lonely being the only shoe in the house. Once we arrived home, it was my turn to transform and explore my own world. Once my owner left me at home and took his jandles, I waited and waited and then started moving slowly towards the lounge like an invisible man walking with Slip-On shoes on. Yes, I am a Slip-on shoe and I alway's wanted another shoe who I can spend time with.

I always stay by the fireplace thinking about another shoe, I wished and wished for another shoe but the wish just fell onto the floor like dust. It never came true...

Suddenly I hear the door open and I know that my owner was back, I quickly ran back to my spot where my owner left me and transformed back as a normal shoe. The owner found me where I was but he never found anything suspicious about me so that was good, three years I have been alone but after the whole three years...

Everything changed for me,
on Christmas, I saw my owner that had a wrapped coloured looking box. I wondered what was inside, I kept thinking and thinking. Until the next morning, I sneaked up on my owner which he was in the bedroom opening the wrapped box. I hid behind the door peaking into his room, once he ripped the wrapper there was a black box and there was definitely something inside.

He opened the box, I watched him carefully. He picked something out of the box and what I saw made me feel happy. He picked out a pink shoe for his wife and I already knew I had company and after that...

We made a connection and my life was even better than ever, THE END.

Beats & Beyond

JPEG ImageToday for our new hurumanu we are doing "Music" and I am pretty sure that this is going to be the best hurumanu we have ever done, Mr Mitchell and Mrs Hastie are in charge of this hurumanu and Mr Mitchell has shown us a few guitars and played a few songs for us. After showing us a few parts of different guitars we also learned something, we made a glossary and listed a few things we learnt. Here are some parts of the guitars and what they do.

Glossary
JPEG Image
Tuning pegs - Puts tension on the string to tune them.
Sound Hole - Hole in a guitar where the sound comes from.
Nylon String guitar-A guitar with nylon strings.
Steek String guitar-A guitar with steel strings
JPEG ImageWhammy bar-Bar on an electric guitar that changes the tune.
Capo-Holds down all 6 strings at the same time.
Dreadnaught guitar-A guitar with a big body surface.
Backpackers guitar-A guitar with a small body surface.
Amp-Plugs into the electric guitars and the amp is part of a sound hole for the electric guitar.

JPEG ImageWe learned all of these things and most of them I did not know about, but now I know all these. This is a new experience and I know it will be the best experience I will have. I will enjoy this hurumanu because we will also be writing our own lyrics and make our own song which I can't wait to do. Here are a few photos of us learning about this Music Hurumanu...
