Tane Mahuta

Hello everyone, I am part of the Tane Mahuta group. Our job is to improve our community and all the nature around us. So basically we have to look after our school and we also have to plan and brainstorm some ideas where we can improve that space and make it look like it was 2,00 years ago, which basically looks like a big forest. We also want to attract birds into our environment so our school feels more natural.

Last week we went around our school looking for empty areas and plus those empty areas had trash in it, today we cleaned those areas up and we just made our community a better place just by collecting rubbish in our community. My favourite area at school is the backyard of school because its filled with plums, Nashi Pears and a whole lot more fruits and vegetables.

My best idea to improve our school community is to plant trees and flowers to attract birds and other kinds of insects like butterflies and ladybugs. I thought this idea to myself that when we plant trees we should make bird feeders and bird houses so we can take care of the birds that need help.

Monkey Boy-Novel Study

Today for reading we were given a list, a list filled with different activities to choose from, this was not just any reading activity task. It was a Novel Study task, so last week we went to our school library and choose a chapter book so we could do the "Novel Study".

Here's the screenshot of the activities we had to do for the Novel Study...

There are more activities than this photo, there are sixteen activities to choose from and we could do it from anyway. What I mean from anyway is that I don't have to do it in a row, I can do it by starting the bottom activity or the top activity. We have to finish at least one activity each time we have reading and make a blog post about our progress in our Novel study.

So the book I chose for my novel study is called Monkey Boy by Donovan Bixley, it's about a boy named Jimmy Grimholt, he leaves the family life and starts his journey on a boat named HMS Fury. He sails with his crew and on aboard with him was idlers, freaks and bullies.

He was always forced to eat disgusting food. His main job was to bring gunpowder to the cannon, he was known as the powder monkey. Anyways here's the link to the Monkey boy information if you want to read it.

Ok now the activity I finished today was the activity at the end of my screenshot and I finished it and also proud with it at the same time. I forgot to mention before that in the screenshot, you might have not realized that at the start of the activities it says Learn, Create, Share. Now, this is the main reason we are doing these kinds of activities, it's because we want to Learn something new, Create something new and we also want to Share our progress/work with you guys because we love it that way and we want to see your reaction to our work.

Here's the photo of the normal novel cover and the recreated novel cover...

What is Learning???

Learning is a tool to help us learn new knowledge so that knowledge goes into our brain, everywhere you go, you learn lots of new stuff, even just by looking, feeling, touching, hearing and smelling. Learning is important to us so that when we grow up we grow up to be a good businessmen/women, to me learning is everywhere even when your cooking food like my dad the best chef👨‍🍳.

What do you think "Learning" is for you?
