Economics - Opportunity Cost
This week for Business Studies we currently learning about opportunity costs. An opportunity cost is having to miss a few choices and picking the choice you want to moreover your other choices. For example, it could be when you have a limited time to do things or choosing what to make for dinner. Another example, you are going to have diner but you have a few options, the options could be Spaghetti, Rice meal and Sushi. You like all of them but you have one option, you have to pick what you mostly like over other options. Let's say you choose Spaghetti but you really wanted to eat Sushi as your second option, this is called opportunity cost. Anything you choose second would be your opportunity cost.
Ok, so we had to make a slideshow or powtoon about the situation we were given. First, we had to solve the situation for Sarah which will be shown in the slideshow. The 4th and 5th slide will be my situation. Have a look and I hope you learned something from this post and have a great day...

BST: Opportunity Cost
This week we have been working on Opportunity cost meaning having options but you can only choose one. I have made a slideshow showing what Sarah had chosen and the 3rd and 4th slide is what I would choose.
Workshop 1: Themes and Ideas
Theme & Ideas - Continuous idea/subject that links throughout the text.
Looks can be deceiving - don't judge a book by its cover
- don't judge by appearance
Example 1: Character of Wybie - when we first meet him he seems scary (mask, motorbike, use of hight angle to look bigger, loud music) but in reality, he's just a weird neighbour.
Shows theme because like other characters, our first impressions based on appearance, tone, visual techniques aren't always correct.
Important because helps the audience understand with Coraline that just because something looks good doesn't mean it is - She should choose the real world lover the other world.
Example 2: Character of the 'Other Mother' - She seems normal/friendly at the start but by the end becomes a soul devouring spider demon.
Shows theme because 'Other Mother' isn't what she appears to be at the start so we shouldn't judge by first impressions.
Important because Coraline realises that having something that looks perfect isn't always a good thing.
Statement - In Coraline, the theme 'looks can be deceiving' is used effectively to engage the audience.
Evidence - For instance, the character of the 'Other Mother' shows us that looks can be deceiving because she starts off as a kind mother figure but gradually changes into a soul devouring demon.
eXplanation-audience - This makes us understand that we shouldn't judge a character based on first impressions as they can often be wrong.
eXplanation-director - This is done to help Coraline decide between the real world and the other world. If the 'Other Mother' was really perfect Coraline wouldn't choose to go home.
eXplanation-another technique(shots/angles,music,setting,lighting/colour) - Combined with this is the use of colour and lighting. The 'Other Mother' first appears in a vibrantly bright room that makes us feel warm and safe. However, by the end it has become dark and green which makes the viewer feel scared and shows that her first look was deceiving.
Your link - This can be juxtaposed to the character of Wybie who we think at first is evil but is actually kind, proving looks can be deceiving.

HEC:Pikelets
Pikelets
Ingredients
1 c Plain Flour
1 t Baking Powder
1/4 t Salt
1 Egg
1/4 c Sugar
3/4 c Milk
How to make pikelets is basically similar to making pancakes, first, we had do the Mise En Place before proceeding to the next step. We had to then make the batter, the egg and the sugar were beaten in a seperate bowl, we continued to beat it until the mixture was pale and thick meaning it should be sort of white coloured. In another seperate bowl we mixed and sifted the dry ingredients then we added a little bit of milk in it, we then poured the wet and the dry ingredients together on a bigger bowl and mixed it. But we made sure we don't over mix it otherwise the batter would be too tough and not soft when bitten into it.
Now we cook the pikelets, first we preheat the pan to medium heat to melt the butter on the pan to prevent it from sticking. We used a parchment paper to spread the butter for being safer and not to burn ourselves, then the batter was then dropped using a spoon. We had to use all the batter and made sure it had to be the same size which was difficult since we had problems throughout. We first did the first drop for testing, it turned out well so we knew it was the right temperature for us to start dropping the rest of the batter one after another. We had to change the temperature down a little to prevent it from getting burnt.
After cooking and using up all the batter, we then evaluated it. The taste of the pikelets were a little too sweet but the batter was just soft, not too chewy and the saltiness was perfect. The colours were pleasing and quite appealing, it was a great experience and i would love to make them again within the future.

Making Chocolate Chip Cookies!
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Ingredients
Recipe:
- 100g Butter
- ½ cup Chelsea White Sugar
- ½ cup Chelsea Soft Brown Sugar
- 1 egg
- 1tsp Vanilla Essence
- 1 ½ cup Flour
- Pinch of salt
- ½ tsp Baking Powder
- ½ cups Chocolate Chips
Method:
Melt butter and add both sugars and cream these together. Beat in the eggs and vanilla then mix in the dry ingredients. Roll into medium-sized balls, making sure the mixture is not too wet! Put on a well-greased baking tray. They shouldn't spread too much so flatten slightly. Bake at 180° for 8-10 minutes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last week for HEC practical lesson we had to make chocolate chip cookies, it was a fun practical so as long as we follow the methods we were done with a great finishing product. Here's how we did it, we did the Mis en Place so we know we have all ingredients on the table and ready to start the next process.
Next, we were given butter so we melted it so we can make the dough soft and not too wet or too dry. We added flour, brown sugar, white sugar, salt and baking powder in one big bowl to work in. In a separate bowl, we added the wet ingredients which were an egg and vanilla essence.
We mixed it with a wooden spoon until it looked creamy, soft. The wet mixture was quite thick but was okay to work with so we added it to the dry ingredients. Forgot to mention that we had to preheat the oven to 180° for around 10 minutes and then adjust it to fanbake for about 7-8 minutes.
Once it was baked we took it out of the oven and the end product turned out very well, the colour was golden brown and the texture was soft on the inside and not too chewy itself. The sweetness was a bit too high for my taste since I don't like too much sweetness. Although the product was good but I would like to improve more and learn how to make them better.

Gym Activities
This term for P.E we had been doing some physical activities that include sports and fitness, first activity we did was Table Tennis and Juggling. For Juggling, we used different coloured scarves to juggle shown in the picture below...
We first did the basic for juggling by only using two scarves on both hands and slowly progressing until we can juggle at least 2 in one hand and 3 in both hands. It was difficult at first but we slowly made progress and we were fine so we moved on to table tennis.
For table tennis, it was easy because most of us had already had the experience so we just practised more and did a few challenges that we were given by the teacher which made it more competitive for us and get us more hyped if that makes sense. After those activities we then did Speed Stacking which I found so cool and competitive, speed stacking is basically sticking cups the fastest so our class did the competition of who can stack the fastest. The fastest was 4.1 by Gerald, Mine was 4.4 but I was about to get 4.3 but I kinda failed mid-way. It was a whole lot of fun and I enjoyed it and I know my whole class did as well. It was quite a practice at first but we gave our best shot so this was what we did in P.E...
